Invest in some top quality cycling clothing and you definitely get what you pay for. The right gear can improve your speed, keep you comfortable in extreme weather conditions, and make your overall experience of cycling much more comfortable. Not to mention the fact that it looks fantastic!
Pearl Izumi (meaning “fountain of pearls”) originated in Japan in 1950. The company has worked closely with the professional racing team Garmin-Transitions and with Tim DeBoom, (two times Iron Man champion) to develop cycling, runnig and triathlon clothing for serious athletes and sports enthusiasts. It has an in-house “Speed Shop,” a sort of laboratory where athletes test out the company’s designs (or, in the company’s own words, “punish the prototypes in brutal workouts”) with the aim of developing the world’s fastest gear for top-level athletes.
Pearl Izumi uses the concept of 1:1 Interface in all its products. By this, they mean a perfect fit between the athlete, the gear and the weather conditions. So products are engineered for a perfect anatomic fit using performance engineered materials, and a lot of thought is given to the connection between the athlete and the apparel. There are four fabric systems to cater for all weather conditions: Transfer (moisture management), Thermal (warmth), Barrier (wind and water protection) and Soft Shell (combining warmth and wind and water protection).
The Pearl Izumi range includes everything you’d expect for a serious sports enthusiast (jerseys, shorts, tights and outerwear) and there is also a particular focus on footwear and accessories.
