An Introduction to Team SportPursuit – Ironman Bolton

After the phenomenal response to our Ironman Bolton Competition earlier this year; we’re proud to introduce the five athletes who will be running for Team SportPursuit this Summer! The competition was stiff, but these five Ironmen and women stood out amongst the rest of an (already extremely impressive) group!

*UPDATE* – After Chris Glover’s unfortunate retirement from the event due to injury, we’re pleased to welcome Lee Hill on-board to take the final spot in Team SportPursuit this August!

ALLIE PARK

Allie Park

I have a dog called Chilli who acts as my training buddy for recovery runs and hill reps!

Ironman experience to date?
None yet! First event will be the Wimbleball 70.3 later this month.

The dream finish time?
12 Hours

Why do you want to be a part of the challenge?
My Ironman plan was to do Austria in 2014 and just do a half this year, but training has gone so well and I have raced all the individual Ironman distances this year (first 3.8km swim in Coniston last weekend)!

Your Ironman Bolton kit list?
I haven’t planned this far ahead but it will definitely involve a lot of check lists being written.

If you could have one super power what would it be?
An ability to read minds – so I can tell if others were as smashed and in pain as me!

CHRIS GLOVER

Name
Chris Glover

Age
41

Anything we should know?
“Competitive to a fault”…My children have yet to beat me at anything

Ironman experience to date?
No full Ironman experience – Furthest I have gone is 70.3

The dream finish time?
14 hours

Why do you want to be a part of the challenge?
As previously mentioned I love the competition – Since starting taking part in triathlon in 2009 I have progressed to going longer and longer. This is the final leg of the journey. I also support my friend’s charity, set up in memory of his wife, and it would be fantastic if I could raise some money along the way.

Your Ironman Bolton kit list?
Wife, kids, gels, gels, gels, gels, gels, wet suit, goggles, bike, bike shoes trainers, sun glasses, gels, helmet, tri suit, cycling shorts, sun tan cream and probably some more gels.

If you could have one super power what would it be?
I would like the ability to fly. Anything that would take the weight off my very sore legs towards the end of the race!

If you could have one super power what would it be?
One of the most underrated of all superpowers, the Zack Morris Time-Out renders the rest of the field obsolete. Who needs flight or super speed when you can zip around the globe on a Learjet without a single second ticking off the clock!?

TROY SQUIRES

Name
Troy Squires

Age
33

Location
London

Anything we should know?
I recently had the pleasure of living on the beautiful island of Mallorca for 3 months.

Ironman experience to date?
Debut Ironman was the inaugural Ironman UK race held in Bolton. Thereafter I’ve raced the Outlaw (2010) and Challenge Roth in 2012, finishing in 9:41.

The dream finish time?
Sub 9:30

Why do you want to be a part of the challenge?
Having qualified for the 70.3 World Champs, I’d love to ‘do the double’ and qualify a slot for Kona. A successful Ironman UK race could be the ticket. Sharing this experience provided huge motivation and hopefully inspired others to follow their dreams.

Your Ironman Bolton kit list?
Wetsuit. Bike. Running shoes. And coffee. Definitely coffee.

If you could have one super power what would it be?
The ability to fly. With a bike strapped to my back. For obvious reasons.

LEE HILL

Name
Lee Hill

Age
28

Location
Bolton

Anything we should know?
I am a physical training instructor in the British Army

Ironman experience to date?
No Ironman experience apart from watching the past 3 years!!

The dream finish time?
My dream finish time would be sub 12 hours, but with the lack of training time I have had I am hoping it all comes together and aiming for a 12 hour 30 minute Ironman.

Why do you want to be a part of the Ironman challenge?
I want to be part of the challenge because this would be the hardest event I have ever taken part in. I love to set myself hard goals and 4 weeks training time from zero to hero is enough of a challenge to set myself, I have never even competed in triathlon before. I also watched a good friend of mine complete the course last year with a missing lower limb after he was involved in an explosion when we were in Afghanistan in 2010. That was the inspiring day for me so when the opportunity arose for a spot to represent Team SportPursuit I couldn’t pass it up.

Your Ironman Bolton kit list?
I have nothing other than my bike and cycling kit, a borrowed wet suit and tri-suit and a huge pile of determination/heart…and a good tolerance to suffer!

Twitter name
@Leehill8

If you could have one super power what would it be?
It would definitely be the ability to heal (myself and anybody else of course) as my body feels more like 68 not 28 and I could do with all these niggles going. If you know anyone dishing out super powers like this please pass my details on!

We’ll be following Allie, Chris, Graeme, Guy, Troy and Lee throughout their journey to Bolton this Summer; so keep an eye on the blog and expect to see more of these faces soon!
