World Record narrowly missed at Frankfurt Marathon

Imagine running for 26 miles and 385 yards for over a period of two hours, only to find that you’ve missed out on the coveted World Record by just four seconds!

Well, believe it or not, this is exactly what happened to Kenya’s Wilson Kipsang over the weekend in the Frankfurt Marathon. The race, held every year just 200 kilometres from Stuttgart, isn’t as popular as the London or New York events, but it still attracts some of the big names within the sport.

Kipsang won the race quite convincingly in a time of 2:03.42, but couldn’t beat the record set by fellow Kenyan Patrick Makau in the Berlin event which took place in September.

With the Olympic Games in London less than a year away, athletes are understandably maximising their performance to ensure they’re at their peak for the big races on August the 5th (Women’s) and 12th (Men’s) of next year.

Of course to run at that speed requires a prolonged and relentless training regime, as well as a strong mental focus and determination to succeed. For beginners it is always wise to start slow and then build up as your fitness and stamina increases. Many make the mistake of going out too hard, too fast and naturally find themselves stopping rather quickly!

In addition to the mental focus required you also need the correct kit, and Sport Pursuit houses all of the top brands such as Vivo Barefoot, Thoni Mara, Ronhill, Odlo, Newton and  2XU. All of which supply top quality products at remarkably low prices, and they will undoubtedly help to improve performance and enable you to run for longer periods of time.

So don’t hesitate, check out our suppliers page now and begin your running adventures.
