Escape to the rugged Peak District with Marmot and SportPursuit and experience an adventure like no other. Teaming up with adventure specialists Blackbox Adventures, we’re giving SportPursuit members the exclusive chance to spend a weekend climbing with and learning from world-class athlete Steve McClure.
You’ll get the chance to camp out in the Marmot Hub within reach of the crags of Hope Valley, where you will pick up tips and advice from one of the world’s best climbers. Marmot athlete Steve McClure has been at the cutting edge of the climbing scene in the UK for twenty years, including climbing the hardest sport route in the UK – through on-wall sessions and an exclusive Q&A you will hear more about Steve’s life as a pro climber and maybe improve your own skills as well!
Event Schedule
Saturday 7th September: Arrive at Midday at the Marmot Hub in Hope Valley
Lunch and introduction from Blackbox Adventures, Marmot and SportPursuit.
Afternoon climbing session in Hope Valley with Steve McClure and qualified BMC climbing instructors.
Evening meal: BBQ at the Marmot Hub.
Q&A and presentation with Marmot athlete Steve McClure.
Sunday 8th September:
Breakfast at camp
Intro to new season Marmot kit and chance to demo for the day.
Morning climbing session at outdoor crags in Hope Valley, packed lunch included.
Debrief and leave camp at 3pm.
Tickets include all activities, safety equipment, meals and snacks listed, and a tent in the Marmot Hub. Travel to and from the venue is not included. Schedule subject to change.
About Steve McClure:
Steve McClure, a Marmot athlete since 2009, is one of the most acclaimed rock climbers in the world, and has been at the cutting edge of UK sport climbing for over 20 years. His first ascent of the un-repeated Rainman, at 9b, stands as the hardest Sport route in the UK. He has also climbed numerous routes at the grade of 9a, and onsighted many at 8b+, with over 500 grade ‘8’ routes onsighted.
Though known for his sport climbing, Steve has also been British Lead Champion four times, and is also an accomplished traditional climber, with onsights and flashed routes up to E8 and headpoint ascents of Rhapsody (E11), Choronzon (E10), Muy Caliente (E9), and most recently, GreatNess Wall at E10.

FAQs
Is any climbing experience necessary?
Yes. We recommend all attendees to have climbed or bouldered before and to have some experience with outdoors climbing and using ropes to ensure safe climbing. There will be BMC certified instructors present at all climbing sessions for your safety and guidance.
What is included with my ticket?
Tickets include all activities, safety equipment, meals and snacks listed, and a tent in the Marmot Hub. Travel to and from the venue is not included.
What do I need to provide/bring along for the weekend?
All attendees should come equipped with appropriate clothing for the outdoor activities and climbing, including necessary layers in case of poor weather. Each person attending will also be required to bring their own sleeping equipment – roll mat and sleeping bag recommended – as well as any personal snacks or additional items required.
Climbing indoors and outdoors, as well as any other activities during the weekend will always have some element of risk. All attendees should have appropriate personal insurance for these activities.
